Duas for waking up and for the night
What to say when you open your eyes, and when sleep is broken by waking or by fear.
On waking, you begin by praising Allah for giving you life back after sleep: it is the first dua of the day. This page gathers the duas for waking up and for a restless night, when a fright takes hold of you. The bedtime duas are on the page of adhkar before sleep.

Upon waking up
Al-hamdu lillâhi l-ladhî ahyânâ ba'da mâ amâtanâ wa ilayhi n-nushûr
Praise be to Allah who has brought us back to life after having caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

When you wake up during the night
There is no deity except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs the sovereignty and to Him belongs the praise, and He is capable of all things. Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no deity except Allah, Allah is the Greatest. There is no might and no power except with Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. My Lord, forgive me.

On waking, for the health and the soul given back
Al-hamdu lillâhi l-ladhî 'âfânî fî jasadî, wa radda 'alayya rûhî, wa adhina lî bi-dhikrih
Praise be to Allah who has restored my body to health, returned my soul to me and allowed me to remember Him.

When fear seizes you in the night
A'ûdhu bi-kalimâti Llâhi t-tâmmati min ghadabihi wa 'iqâbih, wa sharri 'ibâdih, wa min hamazâti sh-shayâtîni wa an yahdurûn
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, from the promptings of the devils and from their presence around me.
