A correction example

The framed word, the rule that applies to it, and a simple explanation: this is how I show you what to work on again.

What I correct, and what I do not do

What I do

  • Skipped, swapped or mispronounced words.
  • Tajweed rules applied or missed: madd, ghunnah, ikhfa, idgham, iqlab, qalqalah, lam shamsiyyah…
  • Where letters come from (makharij), and the verses to recite again.
  • Every rule explained simply, with the right recitation to listen to again.

What I do not do

  • Hafs ʿan ʿAsim reading only.
  • An internet connection is needed.
  • I do not replace a teacher.
  • I can get it wrong, especially in a noisy room: start again as often as you like, nobody judges.

Your questions

What can I ask my tutor?

The meaning of a verse, a tajweed rule, how to say a word, a hadith or a dua, your progress, or what you could recite now. I answer in writing and cite my sources.

Do I need to know tajweed to start?

No. Every level is welcome: I explain each rule simply, at the moment it matters in your recitation.

Are Omar and Noor real people?

No. They are AI tutors created by the Tilawa team. They listen to you, explain a verse or a rule, and cite their sources.

Is it accurate?

I follow your recitation word by word, then point out the words and rules to work on. I can get it wrong, especially in a noisy room. A qualified teacher remains the reference: I help you practise every day, between lessons.

Is there a web or desktop version?

No. Tilawa is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android, because it listens to you through the microphone while you recite. On a computer, this site lets you read and listen to the Quran with colour-coded tajweed. To recite and get corrected, scan the QR code with your phone.
