Its estimated date, the fast for those not on pilgrimage, and the worth of this day
The day of Arafah 2027 is expected to fall on Saturday, May 15, 2027, 9 Dhu al-Hijjah 1448, according to the Umm al-Qura calendar. On that day pilgrims stand at Arafah. For others it is a recommended fast: the Prophet ﷺ hoped it wipes out two years of sins. The date depends on the moon sighting in your country.

It is 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha. The pilgrims spend the day on the plain of Arafah, near Makkah, in supplication. Everywhere else, Muslims live it through fasting, remembering Allah and supplication.

The fast of the day of Arafah
This fast is recommended for those not on pilgrimage; it is not obligatory. Pilgrims generally do not fast that day, as the hadith of Umm al-Fadl shows.
The Prophet ﷺ said he hoped from Allah that fasting the day of Arafah wipes out the sins of the past year and of the year to come.
On the day of Arafah, during the pilgrimage, people wondered whether the Prophet ﷺ was fasting; Umm al-Fadl sent him some milk, and he drank it in front of them, on his camel.
A day of forgiveness
The Prophet ﷺ said that there is no day on which Allah frees more of His servants from the Fire than the day of Arafah.
How to spend the day
Through fasting, prayer, remembering Allah and supplication, for yourself, your family and all Muslims. You can call on Allah in your own words, in your own language; the verified duas of our library are gathered on the duas page.
Many begin the takbir after the prayers on this day, until the end of the days of tashriq; practices differ between schools: follow your mosque.
What if the date is different in your country?
The Umm al-Qura calendar is calculated in advance, but many countries wait to see the crescent moon. The day of Arafah may then fall a day earlier or later where you live. Scholars then differ: for many, you fast the 9th according to your country’s date; for others, on the day the pilgrims stand at Arafah. If in doubt, ask the imam of your mosque.
