The 99 names of Allah (al-Asma’ al-Husna)
Each name in Arabic, its transliteration and meaning, in the order of at-Tirmidhi’s list.
The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah has ninety-nine names and that whoever encompasses them enters Paradise. The list on this page follows at-Tirmidhi’s, the best known: each name in Arabic, with its transliteration and meaning. This enumeration is graded weak; most of these names are found in the Quran and the Sunnah.
The 99 names, one by one
The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred minus one, and that whoever “encompasses” them (ahsâhâ) enters Paradise.
At-Tirmidhi reports the enumeration of the ninety-nine names that this page follows; he himself calls it “gharib”, and al-Albani grades this enumeration weak. Scholars have drawn similar lists from the Quran and the Sunnah.

How to learn them
To “encompass” the names, scholars say, is to learn them, understand their meaning and live by them: calling on Allah by the name that fits your request.
A few names a day is enough: the table keeps the order, and each name has its own anchor to come back to.
Frequently asked questions
Is the list of 99 names authentic?
The hadith of the 99 names is authentic (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736). The name-by-name enumeration, reported by at-Tirmidhi, is graded weak by al-Albani; scholars have drawn similar lists from the Quran and the Sunnah.
Does Allah have only 99 names?
No. Scholars explain that the hadith speaks of 99 names with a particular merit, without saying there are no others.
How do I call on Allah by His names?
By choosing the name that matches the request: “Ya Rahman” for mercy, “Ya Razzaq” for provision. The Quran asks us to call on Allah by His most beautiful names.
