Duas for fasting and Ramadan

From the crescent that opens the month to the Night of Decree, what to say while fasting.

Fasting has its words: the dua on seeing the crescent, the one said when breaking the fast, the prayer for the host who received you for iftar, the reply to someone who insults you while you fast, and the request for pardon on the Night of Decree. Each text on this page carries its source and grade.

The duas

  1. On sighting the crescent that opens a new month, Ramadan included

Allâhumma ahlilhu 'alaynâ bi-l-yumni wa l-îmân, wa s-salâmati wa l-islâm, rabbî wa rabbuka Llâh

O Allah, bring this crescent over us with blessing and faith, safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.

  6. On the day of Arafah

Lâ ilâha illâ Llâhu wahdahu lâ sharîka lah, lahu l-mulku wa lahu l-hamd, wa huwa 'alâ kulli shay'in qadîr
