Your Rihla, step by step

Each surah is a chapter, and each chapter has its steps: listen, prepare, answer, memorize, recite. At the end, the chest, and the next surah opens.

1Start with Al-FatihaYou listen to each verse from a master reciter, then prepare the meaning and the rules, verse by verse.

2One step at a timeQuestions to check, memorizing with the text hidden, a recitation I correct: each step prepares the next.

3The chest, then onwardsAt the end of the chapter, the chest: your XP and your hassanat. The next surah opens, and your map keeps every step you made.

Al-Fatiha: listening, reciting from memory, then the chest and An-Nas. A simplified view of the app.

What the Rihla teaches, and what it does not do

What it does

  • Reciting each surah, verse after verse, with your recitation corrected.
  • Listening, understanding a rule in a few minutes, then checking it in a quiz.
  • Memorizing what you have recited.

What it does not do

  • Hafs ʿan ʿAsim reading only.
  • An internet connection is needed.
  • I do not replace a teacher.
  • The Rihla teaches you to recite, not to read the letters: to start reading, our lessons on this site help.

Your map keeps your place. You pick up at the step where you were, without losing anything you have done.

Is there a web or desktop version?

No. Tilawa is an app for iPhone, iPad and Android, because it listens to you through the microphone while you recite. On a computer, this site lets you read and listen to the Quran with colour-coded tajweed. To recite and get corrected, scan the QR code with your phone.
