Duas for life with others

Thanking, leaving a gathering, answering someone who loves you for Allah’s sake.

Life with others has its duas: thanking someone who did you good, asking forgiveness before leaving a gathering, answering someone who says they love you for Allah’s sake, and supplicating for someone you have hurt. Each dua on this page carries its source and grade.

The duas

  1. When sneezing (and the reply)

The one who sneezes says: Praise be to Allah. His brother replies: May Allah have mercy on you. He then answers: May Allah guide you and set your affairs in order.

  4. When leaving a gathering

Subhânaka Llâhumma wa bi-hamdik, ash-hadu an lâ ilâha illâ ant, astaghfiruka wa atûbu ilayk

When to say them

The dua of the gathering is said before standing up: it wipes away the words too many.

The thanks are said to the person themselves; the dua for someone you hurt is also said in their absence.
