Al Imran

وَكَيْفَ

wakayfa

And how (could)

تَكْفُرُونَ

takfurūna

you disbelieve

وَأَنتُمْ

wa-antum

while [you]

تُتْلَىٰ

tut'lā

is recited

عَلَيْكُمْ

ʿalaykum

upon you

ءَايَـٰتُ

āyātu

(the) Verses

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

وَفِيكُمْ

wafīkum

and among you

رَسُولُهُۥ ۗ

rasūluhu

(is) His Messenger

وَمَن

waman

And whoever

يَعْتَصِم

yaʿtaṣim

holds firmly

بِٱللَّهِ

bil-lahi

to Allah

فَقَدْ

faqad

then surely

هُدِىَ

hudiya

he is guided

إِلَىٰ

ilā

to

صِرَٰطٍۢ

ṣirāṭin

a path

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

mus'taqīmin

straight

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

yāayyuhā

O you

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

who

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

believe[d]

ٱتَّقُوا۟

ittaqū

Fear

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

حَقَّ

ḥaqqa

(as is His) right

تُقَاتِهِۦ

tuqātihi

(that) He (should) be feared

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تَمُوتُنَّ

tamūtunna

die

إِلَّا

illā

except

وَأَنتُم

wa-antum

[while you]

مُّسْلِمُونَ

mus'limūna

(as) Muslims

وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟

wa-iʿ'taṣimū

And hold firmly

بِحَبْلِ

biḥabli

to (the) rope

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

جَمِيعًۭا

jamīʿan

all together

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تَفَرَّقُوا۟ ۚ

tafarraqū

be divided

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟

wa-udh'kurū

And remember

نِعْمَتَ

niʿ'mata

(the) Favor

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

عَلَيْكُمْ

ʿalaykum

on you

إِذْ

idh

when

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you were

أَعْدَآءًۭ

aʿdāan

enemies

فَأَلَّفَ

fa-allafa

then He made friendship

بَيْنَ

bayna

between

قُلُوبِكُمْ

qulūbikum

your hearts

فَأَصْبَحْتُم

fa-aṣbaḥtum

then you became

بِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓ

biniʿ'matihi

by His Favor

إِخْوَٰنًۭا

ikh'wānan

brothers

وَكُنتُمْ

wakuntum

And you were

عَلَىٰ

ʿalā

on

شَفَا

shafā

(the) brink

حُفْرَةٍۢ

ḥuf'ratin

(of) pit

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلنَّارِ

l-nāri

the Fire

فَأَنقَذَكُم

fa-anqadhakum

then He saved you

مِّنْهَا ۗ

min'hā

from it

كَذَٰلِكَ

kadhālika

Thus

يُبَيِّنُ

yubayyinu

makes clear

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

لَكُمْ

lakum

for you

ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

āyātihi

His Verses

لَعَلَّكُمْ

laʿallakum

so that you may

تَهْتَدُونَ

tahtadūna

(be) guided

وَلْتَكُن

waltakun

And let there be

مِّنكُمْ

minkum

among you

أُمَّةٌۭ

ummatun

[a] people

يَدْعُونَ

yadʿūna

inviting

إِلَى

ilā

to

ٱلْخَيْرِ

l-khayri

the good

وَيَأْمُرُونَ

wayamurūna

[and] enjoining

بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

bil-maʿrūfi

the right

وَيَنْهَوْنَ

wayanhawna

and forbidding

عَنِ

ʿani

from

ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ

l-munkari

the wrong

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

wa-ulāika

and those

هُمُ

humu

they

ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ

l-muf'liḥūna

(are) the successful ones

وَلَا

walā

And (do) not

تَكُونُوا۟

takūnū

be

كَٱلَّذِينَ

ka-alladhīna

like those who

تَفَرَّقُوا۟

tafarraqū

became divided

وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟

wa-ikh'talafū

and differed

مِنۢ

min

from

بَعْدِ

baʿdi

after

مَا

mā

what

جَآءَهُمُ

jāahumu

came to them

ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ

l-bayinātu

the clear proofs

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

wa-ulāika

And those

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

عَذَابٌ

ʿadhābun

(is) a punishment

عَظِيمٌۭ

ʿaẓīmun

great

يَوْمَ

yawma

(On the) Day

تَبْيَضُّ

tabyaḍḍu

would become white

وُجُوهٌۭ

wujūhun

(some) faces

وَتَسْوَدُّ

wataswaddu

and would become black

وُجُوهٌۭ ۚ

wujūhun

(some) faces

فَأَمَّا

fa-ammā

As for

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those whose

ٱسْوَدَّتْ

is'waddat

turn black

وُجُوهُهُمْ

wujūhuhum

[their] faces

أَكَفَرْتُم

akafartum

Did you disbelieve

بَعْدَ

baʿda

after

إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ

īmānikum

your belief

فَذُوقُوا۟

fadhūqū

Then taste

ٱلْعَذَابَ

l-ʿadhāba

the punishment

بِمَا

bimā

for what

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you used to

تَكْفُرُونَ

takfurūna

disbelieve

وَأَمَّا

wa-ammā

But as for

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those whose

ٱبْيَضَّتْ

ib'yaḍḍat

turn white

وُجُوهُهُمْ

wujūhuhum

[their] faces

فَفِى

fafī

then (they will be) in

رَحْمَةِ

raḥmati

(the) Mercy

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

هُمْ

hum

they

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

خَـٰلِدُونَ

khālidūna

(will) abide forever

تِلْكَ

til'ka

These

ءَايَـٰتُ

āyātu

(are the) Verses

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

نَتْلُوهَا

natlūhā

We recite them

عَلَيْكَ

ʿalayka

to you

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ

bil-ḥaqi

in truth

وَمَا

wamā

And not

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

يُرِيدُ

yurīdu

wants

ظُلْمًۭا

ẓul'man

injustice

لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

lil'ʿālamīna

to the worlds

وَلِلَّهِ

walillahi

And to Allah (belongs)

مَا

mā

whatever

فِى

fī

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

l-samāwāti

the heavens

وَمَا

wamā

and whatever

فِى

fī

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

l-arḍi

the earth

وَإِلَى

wa-ilā

And to

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

تُرْجَعُ

tur'jaʿu

will be returned

ٱلْأُمُورُ

l-umūru

the matters

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

You are

خَيْرَ

khayra

(the) best

أُمَّةٍ

ummatin

(of) people

أُخْرِجَتْ

ukh'rijat

raised

لِلنَّاسِ

lilnnāsi

for the mankind

تَأْمُرُونَ

tamurūna

enjoining

بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

bil-maʿrūfi

the right

وَتَنْهَوْنَ

watanhawna

and forbidding

عَنِ

ʿani

[from]

ٱلْمُنكَرِ

l-munkari

the wrong

وَتُؤْمِنُونَ

watu'minūna

and believing

بِٱللَّهِ ۗ

bil-lahi

in Allah

وَلَوْ

walaw

And if

ءَامَنَ

āmana

believed

أَهْلُ

ahlu

(the) People

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

l-kitābi

(of) the Book

لَكَانَ

lakāna

surely would have been

خَيْرًۭا

khayran

good

لَّهُم ۚ

lahum

for them

مِّنْهُمُ

min'humu

Among them

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

l-mu'minūna

(are) [the] believers

وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ

wa-aktharuhumu

but most of them

ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ

l-fāsiqūna

(are) defiantly disobedient

لَن

lan

Never

يَضُرُّوكُمْ

yaḍurrūkum

will they harm you

إِلَّآ

illā

except

أَذًۭى ۖ

adhan

a hurt

وَإِن

wa-in

And if

يُقَـٰتِلُوكُمْ

yuqātilūkum

they fight you

يُوَلُّوكُمُ

yuwallūkumu

they will turn (towards) you

ٱلْأَدْبَارَ

l-adbāra

the backs

ثُمَّ

thumma

then

لَا

lā

not

يُنصَرُونَ

yunṣarūna

they will be helped

ضُرِبَتْ

ḍuribat

Struck

عَلَيْهِمُ

ʿalayhimu

on them

ٱلذِّلَّةُ

l-dhilatu

the humiliation

أَيْنَ

ayna

wherever

مَا

mā

that

ثُقِفُوٓا۟

thuqifū

they are found

إِلَّا

illā

except

بِحَبْلٍۢ

biḥablin

with a rope

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

وَحَبْلٍۢ

waḥablin

and a rope

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱلنَّاسِ

l-nāsi

the people

وَبَآءُو

wabāū

And they incurred

بِغَضَبٍۢ

bighaḍabin

wrath

مِّنَ

mina

from

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

وَضُرِبَتْ

waḍuribat

and struck

عَلَيْهِمُ

ʿalayhimu

on them

ٱلْمَسْكَنَةُ ۚ

l-maskanatu

the poverty

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

That

بِأَنَّهُمْ

bi-annahum

(is) because

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they used to

يَكْفُرُونَ

yakfurūna

disbelieve

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

biāyāti

in (the) Verses

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

وَيَقْتُلُونَ

wayaqtulūna

and they killed

ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ

l-anbiyāa

the Prophets

بِغَيْرِ

bighayri

without

حَقٍّۢ ۚ

ḥaqqin

right

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

That

بِمَا

bimā

(is) because

عَصَوا۟

ʿaṣaw

they disobeyed

وَّكَانُوا۟

wakānū

and they used to

يَعْتَدُونَ

yaʿtadūna

transgress

۞ لَيْسُوا۟

laysū

They are not

سَوَآءًۭ ۗ

sawāan

(the) same

مِّنْ

min

among

أَهْلِ

ahli

(the) People

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

l-kitābi

(of) the Book

أُمَّةٌۭ

ummatun

(is) a community

قَآئِمَةٌۭ

qāimatun

standing

يَتْلُونَ

yatlūna

(and) reciting

ءَايَـٰتِ

āyāti

(the) Verses

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

(of) Allah

ءَانَآءَ

ānāa

(in the) hours

ٱلَّيْلِ

al-layli

(of) the night

وَهُمْ

wahum

and they

يَسْجُدُونَ

yasjudūna

prostrate

يُؤْمِنُونَ

yu'minūna

They believe

بِٱللَّهِ

bil-lahi

in Allah

وَٱلْيَوْمِ

wal-yawmi

and the Day

ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ

l-ākhiri

the Last

وَيَأْمُرُونَ

wayamurūna

and they enjoin

بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ

bil-maʿrūfi

[with] the right

وَيَنْهَوْنَ

wayanhawna

and forbid

عَنِ

ʿani

[from]

ٱلْمُنكَرِ

l-munkari

the wrong

وَيُسَـٰرِعُونَ

wayusāriʿūna

and they hasten

فِى

fī

in

ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ

l-khayrāti

the good deeds

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

wa-ulāika

And those

مِنَ

mina

(are) from

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

l-ṣāliḥīna

the righteous

وَمَا

wamā

And whatever

يَفْعَلُوا۟

yafʿalū

they do

مِنْ

min

of

خَيْرٍۢ

khayrin

a good

فَلَن

falan

then never

يُكْفَرُوهُ ۗ

yuk'farūhu

will they be denied it

وَٱللَّهُ

wal-lahu

And Allah

عَلِيمٌۢ

ʿalīmun

(is) All-Knowing

بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

bil-mutaqīna

of the God-fearing

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those who

كَفَرُوا۟

kafarū

disbelieved

لَن

lan

never

تُغْنِىَ

tugh'niya

will avail

عَنْهُمْ

ʿanhum

[for] them

أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ

amwāluhum

their wealth

وَلَآ

walā

and not

أَوْلَـٰدُهُم

awlāduhum

their children

مِّنَ

mina

against

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

شَيْـًۭٔا ۖ

shayan

anything

وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

wa-ulāika

and those

أَصْحَـٰبُ

aṣḥābu

(are the) companions

ٱلنَّارِ ۚ

l-nāri

(of) the Fire

هُمْ

hum

they

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

خَـٰلِدُونَ

khālidūna

(will) abide forever

مَثَلُ

mathalu

Example

مَا

mā

(of) what

يُنفِقُونَ

yunfiqūna

they spend

فِى

fī

in

هَـٰذِهِ

hādhihi

this

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

l-ḥayati

[the] life

ٱلدُّنْيَا

l-dun'yā

(of) the world

كَمَثَلِ

kamathali

(is) like (the) example

رِيحٍۢ

rīḥin

(of) a wind

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

صِرٌّ

ṣirrun

(is) frost

أَصَابَتْ

aṣābat

it struck

حَرْثَ

ḥartha

(the) harvest

قَوْمٍۢ

qawmin

(of) a people

ظَلَمُوٓا۟

ẓalamū

who wronged

أَنفُسَهُمْ

anfusahum

themselves

فَأَهْلَكَتْهُ ۚ

fa-ahlakathu

then destroyed it

وَمَا

wamā

And not

ظَلَمَهُمُ

ẓalamahumu

(has) wronged them

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

وَلَـٰكِنْ

walākin

[and] but

أَنفُسَهُمْ

anfusahum

themselves

يَظْلِمُونَ

yaẓlimūna

they wronged

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

yāayyuhā

O you

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

who

ءَامَنُوا۟

āmanū

believe[d]

لَا

lā

(Do) not

تَتَّخِذُوا۟

tattakhidhū

take

بِطَانَةًۭ

biṭānatan

(as) intimates

مِّن

min

from

دُونِكُمْ

dūnikum

other than yourselves

لَا

lā

not

يَأْلُونَكُمْ

yalūnakum

they will spare you

خَبَالًۭا

khabālan

(any) ruin

وَدُّوا۟

waddū

They wish

مَا

mā

what

عَنِتُّمْ

ʿanittum

distresses you

قَدْ

qad

Indeed

بَدَتِ

badati

(has become) apparent

ٱلْبَغْضَآءُ

l-baghḍāu

the hatred

مِنْ

min

from

أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ

afwāhihim

their mouths

وَمَا

wamā

and what

تُخْفِى

tukh'fī

conceals

صُدُورُهُمْ

ṣudūruhum

their breasts

أَكْبَرُ ۚ

akbaru

(is) greater

قَدْ

qad

Certainly

بَيَّنَّا

bayyannā

We made clear

لَكُمُ

lakumu

for you

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۖ

l-āyāti

the Verses

إِن

in

if

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you were

تَعْقِلُونَ

taʿqilūna

(to use) reason

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ

hāantum

Lo! You are

أُو۟لَآءِ

ulāi

those

تُحِبُّونَهُمْ

tuḥibbūnahum

you love them

وَلَا

walā

but not

يُحِبُّونَكُمْ

yuḥibbūnakum

they love you

وَتُؤْمِنُونَ

watu'minūna

and you believe

بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

bil-kitābi

in the Book

كُلِّهِۦ

kullihi

all of it

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

لَقُوكُمْ

laqūkum

they meet you

قَالُوٓا۟

qālū

they say

ءَامَنَّا

āmannā

We believe

وَإِذَا

wa-idhā

And when

خَلَوْا۟

khalaw

they are alone

عَضُّوا۟

ʿaḍḍū

they bite

عَلَيْكُمُ

ʿalaykumu

at you

ٱلْأَنَامِلَ

l-anāmila

the finger tips

مِنَ

mina

(out) of

ٱلْغَيْظِ ۚ

l-ghayẓi

[the] rage

قُلْ

qul

Say

مُوتُوا۟

mūtū

Die

بِغَيْظِكُمْ ۗ

bighayẓikum

in your rage

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

عَلِيمٌۢ

ʿalīmun

(is) All-Knowing

بِذَاتِ

bidhāti

of what

ٱلصُّدُورِ

l-ṣudūri

(is in) the breasts

إِن

in

If

تَمْسَسْكُمْ

tamsaskum

touches you

حَسَنَةٌۭ

ḥasanatun

a good

تَسُؤْهُمْ

tasu'hum

it grieves them

وَإِن

wa-in

and if

تُصِبْكُمْ

tuṣib'kum

strikes you

سَيِّئَةٌۭ

sayyi-atun

misfortune

يَفْرَحُوا۟

yafraḥū

they rejoice

بِهَا ۖ

bihā

at it

وَإِن

wa-in

And if

تَصْبِرُوا۟

taṣbirū

you are patient

وَتَتَّقُوا۟

watattaqū

and fear (Allah)

لَا

lā

not

يَضُرُّكُمْ

yaḍurrukum

will harm you

كَيْدُهُمْ

kayduhum

their plot

شَيْـًٔا ۗ

shayan

(in) anything

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

بِمَا

bimā

of what

يَعْمَلُونَ

yaʿmalūna

they do

مُحِيطٌۭ

muḥīṭun

(is) All-Encompassing

وَإِذْ

wa-idh

And when

غَدَوْتَ

ghadawta

you left early morning

مِنْ

min

from

أَهْلِكَ

ahlika

your household

تُبَوِّئُ

tubawwi-u

to post

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

l-mu'minīna

the believers

مَقَـٰعِدَ

maqāʿida

(to take) positions

لِلْقِتَالِ ۗ

lil'qitāli

for the battle

وَٱللَّهُ

wal-lahu

And Allah

سَمِيعٌ

samīʿun

(is) All-Hearing

عَلِيمٌ

ʿalīmun

All-Knowing

إِذْ

idh

When

هَمَّت

hammat

inclined

طَّآئِفَتَانِ

ṭāifatāni

two parties

مِنكُمْ

minkum

among you

أَن

an

that

تَفْشَلَا

tafshalā

they lost heart

وَٱللَّهُ

wal-lahu

but Allah

وَلِيُّهُمَا ۗ

waliyyuhumā

(was) their protector

وَعَلَى

waʿalā

And on

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ

falyatawakkali

let put (their) trust

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

l-mu'minūna

the believers

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

نَصَرَكُمُ

naṣarakumu

helped you

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

Allah

بِبَدْرٍۢ

bibadrin

in Badr

وَأَنتُمْ

wa-antum

while you (were)

أَذِلَّةٌۭ ۖ

adhillatun

weak

فَٱتَّقُوا۟

fa-ittaqū

So fear

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

لَعَلَّكُمْ

laʿallakum

so that you may

تَشْكُرُونَ

tashkurūna

(be) grateful

إِذْ

idh

When

تَقُولُ

taqūlu

you said

لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

lil'mu'minīna

to the believers

أَلَن

alan

Is it not

يَكْفِيَكُمْ

yakfiyakum

enough for you

أَن

an

that

يُمِدَّكُمْ

yumiddakum

reinforces you

رَبُّكُم

rabbukum

your Lord

بِثَلَـٰثَةِ

bithalāthati

with three

ءَالَـٰفٍۢ

ālāfin

thousand[s]

مِّنَ

mina

[of]

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

l-malāikati

[the] Angels

مُنزَلِينَ

munzalīna

[the ones] sent down

بَلَىٰٓ ۚ

balā

Yes

إِن

in

if

تَصْبِرُوا۟

taṣbirū

you are patient

وَتَتَّقُوا۟

watattaqū

and fear (Allah)

وَيَأْتُوكُم

wayatūkum

and they come upon you

مِّن

min

[of]

فَوْرِهِمْ

fawrihim

suddenly

هَـٰذَا

hādhā

[this]

يُمْدِدْكُمْ

yum'did'kum

will reinforce you

رَبُّكُم

rabbukum

your Lord

بِخَمْسَةِ

bikhamsati

with five

ءَالَـٰفٍۢ

ālāfin

thousand[s]

مِّنَ

mina

[of]

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

l-malāikati

[the] Angels

مُسَوِّمِينَ

musawwimīna

[the ones] having marks
