Alif Laam Meem Saad

كِتَـٰبٌ

kitābun

(This is) a Book

أُنزِلَ

unzila

revealed

إِلَيْكَ

ilayka

to you

فَلَا

falā

so (let) not

يَكُن

yakun

be

فِى

fī

in

صَدْرِكَ

ṣadrika

your breast

حَرَجٌۭ

ḥarajun

any uneasiness

مِّنْهُ

min'hu

from it

لِتُنذِرَ

litundhira

that you warn

بِهِۦ

bihi

with it

وَذِكْرَىٰ

wadhik'rā

and a reminder

لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

lil'mu'minīna

for the believers

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟

ittabiʿū

Follow

مَآ

mā

what

أُنزِلَ

unzila

has been revealed

إِلَيْكُم

ilaykum

to you

مِّن

min

from

رَّبِّكُمْ

rabbikum

your Lord

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تَتَّبِعُوا۟

tattabiʿū

follow

مِن

min

from

دُونِهِۦٓ

dūnihi

beside Him

أَوْلِيَآءَ ۗ

awliyāa

any allies

قَلِيلًۭا

qalīlan

Little

مَّا

mā

(is) what

تَذَكَّرُونَ

tadhakkarūna

you remember

وَكَم

wakam

And how many

مِّن

min

of

قَرْيَةٍ

qaryatin

a city

أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَا

ahlaknāhā

We destroyed it

فَجَآءَهَا

fajāahā

and came to it

بَأْسُنَا

basunā

Our punishment

بَيَـٰتًا

bayātan

(at) night

أَوْ

aw

or

هُمْ

hum

(while) they

قَآئِلُونَ

qāilūna

were sleeping at noon

فَمَا

famā

Then not

كَانَ

kāna

was

دَعْوَىٰهُمْ

daʿwāhum

their plea

إِذْ

idh

when

جَآءَهُم

jāahum

came to them

بَأْسُنَآ

basunā

Our punishment

إِلَّآ

illā

except

أَن

an

that

قَالُوٓا۟

qālū

they said

إِنَّا

innā

Indeed, we

كُنَّا

kunnā

were

ظَـٰلِمِينَ

ẓālimīna

wrongdoers

فَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ

falanasalanna

Then surely We will question

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those (to) whom

أُرْسِلَ

ur'sila

were sent

إِلَيْهِمْ

ilayhim

to them (Messengers)

وَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ

walanasalanna

and surely We will question

ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

l-mur'salīna

the Messengers

فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ

falanaquṣṣanna

Then surely We will narrate

عَلَيْهِم

ʿalayhim

to them

بِعِلْمٍۢ ۖ

biʿil'min

with knowledge

وَمَا

wamā

and not

كُنَّا

kunnā

were We

غَآئِبِينَ

ghāibīna

absent

وَٱلْوَزْنُ

wal-waznu

And the weighing

يَوْمَئِذٍ

yawma-idhin

that day

ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ

l-ḥaqu

(will be) the truth

فَمَن

faman

So whose

ثَقُلَتْ

thaqulat

(will be) heavy

مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

mawāzīnuhu

his scales

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

fa-ulāika

then those

هُمُ

humu

[they]

ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ

l-muf'liḥūna

(will be) the successful ones

وَمَنْ

waman

And (for) those

خَفَّتْ

khaffat

(will be) light

مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

mawāzīnuhu

his scales

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

fa-ulāika

so those

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

(will be) the ones who

خَسِرُوٓا۟

khasirū

lost

أَنفُسَهُم

anfusahum

themselves

بِمَا

bimā

because

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they were

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

biāyātinā

to Our Verses

يَظْلِمُونَ

yaẓlimūna

(doing) injustice

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

مَكَّنَّـٰكُمْ

makkannākum

We established you

فِى

fī

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

l-arḍi

the earth

وَجَعَلْنَا

wajaʿalnā

and We made

لَكُمْ

lakum

for you

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

مَعَـٰيِشَ ۗ

maʿāyisha

livelihood

قَلِيلًۭا

qalīlan

Little

مَّا

mā

(is) what

تَشْكُرُونَ

tashkurūna

you (are) grateful

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ

khalaqnākum

We created you

ثُمَّ

thumma

then

صَوَّرْنَـٰكُمْ

ṣawwarnākum

We fashioned you

ثُمَّ

thumma

Then

قُلْنَا

qul'nā

We said

لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

lil'malāikati

to the Angels

ٱسْجُدُوا۟

us'judū

Prostrate

لِـَٔادَمَ

liādama

to Adam

فَسَجَدُوٓا۟

fasajadū

So they prostrated

إِلَّآ

illā

except

إِبْلِيسَ

ib'līsa

Iblis

لَمْ

lam

Not

يَكُن

yakun

he was

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ

l-sājidīna

those who prostrated

قَالَ

qāla

(Allah) said

مَا

mā

What

مَنَعَكَ

manaʿaka

prevented you

أَلَّا

allā

that not

تَسْجُدَ

tasjuda

you prostrate

إِذْ

idh

when

أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ

amartuka

I commanded you

قَالَ

qāla

(Shaitaan) said

أَنَا۠

anā

I am

خَيْرٌۭ

khayrun

better

مِّنْهُ

min'hu

than him

خَلَقْتَنِى

khalaqtanī

You created me

مِن

min

from

نَّارٍۢ

nārin

fire

وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ

wakhalaqtahu

and You created him

مِن

min

from

طِينٍۢ

ṭīnin

clay

قَالَ

qāla

(Allah) said

فَٱهْبِطْ

fa-ih'biṭ

Then go down

مِنْهَا

min'hā

from it

فَمَا

famā

for not

يَكُونُ

yakūnu

it is

لَكَ

laka

for you

أَن

an

that

تَتَكَبَّرَ

tatakabbara

you be arrogant

فِيهَا

fīhā

in it

فَٱخْرُجْ

fa-ukh'ruj

So get out

إِنَّكَ

innaka

indeed, you

مِنَ

mina

(are) of

ٱلصَّـٰغِرِينَ

l-ṣāghirīna

the disgraced ones

قَالَ

qāla

(Shaitaan) said

أَنظِرْنِىٓ

anẓir'nī

Give me respite

إِلَىٰ

ilā

till

يَوْمِ

yawmi

(the) Day

يُبْعَثُونَ

yub'ʿathūna

they are raised up

قَالَ

qāla

(Allah) said

إِنَّكَ

innaka

Indeed, you

مِنَ

mina

(are) of

ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ

l-munẓarīna

the ones given respite

قَالَ

qāla

(Shaitaan) said

فَبِمَآ

fabimā

Because

أَغْوَيْتَنِى

aghwaytanī

You have sent me astray

لَأَقْعُدَنَّ

la-aqʿudanna

surely I will sit

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

صِرَٰطَكَ

ṣirāṭaka

(on) Your path

ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ

l-mus'taqīma

the straight

ثُمَّ

thumma

Then

لَـَٔاتِيَنَّهُم

laātiyannahum

surely, I will come to them

مِّنۢ

min

from

بَيْنِ

bayni

before

أَيْدِيهِمْ

aydīhim

them

وَمِنْ

wamin

and from

خَلْفِهِمْ

khalfihim

behind them

وَعَنْ

waʿan

and from

أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ

aymānihim

their right

وَعَن

waʿan

and from

شَمَآئِلِهِمْ ۖ

shamāilihim

their left

وَلَا

walā

and not

تَجِدُ

tajidu

You (will) find

أَكْثَرَهُمْ

aktharahum

most of them

شَـٰكِرِينَ

shākirīna

grateful

قَالَ

qāla

(Allah) said

ٱخْرُجْ

ukh'ruj

Get out

مِنْهَا

min'hā

of it

مَذْءُومًۭا

madhūman

disgraced

مَّدْحُورًۭا ۖ

madḥūran

and expelled

لَّمَن

laman

Certainly, whoever

تَبِعَكَ

tabiʿaka

follows you

مِنْهُمْ

min'hum

among them

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ

la-amla-anna

surely, I will fill

جَهَنَّمَ

jahannama

Hell

مِنكُمْ

minkum

with you

أَجْمَعِينَ

ajmaʿīna

all

وَيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ

wayāādamu

And O Adam

ٱسْكُنْ

us'kun

Dwell

أَنتَ

anta

you

وَزَوْجُكَ

wazawjuka

and your wife

ٱلْجَنَّةَ

l-janata

(in) the Garden

فَكُلَا

fakulā

and you both eat

مِنْ

min

from

حَيْثُ

ḥaythu

wherever

شِئْتُمَا

shi'tumā

you both wish

وَلَا

walā

but (do) not

تَقْرَبَا

taqrabā

approach [both of you]

هَـٰذِهِ

hādhihi

this

ٱلشَّجَرَةَ

l-shajarata

[the] tree

فَتَكُونَا

fatakūnā

lest you both be

مِنَ

mina

among

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

l-ẓālimīna

the wrongdoers

فَوَسْوَسَ

fawaswasa

Then whispered

لَهُمَا

lahumā

to both of them

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

l-shayṭānu

the Shaitaan

لِيُبْدِىَ

liyub'diya

to make apparent

لَهُمَا

lahumā

to both of them

مَا

mā

what

وُۥرِىَ

wūriya

was concealed

عَنْهُمَا

ʿanhumā

from both of them

مِن

min

of

سَوْءَٰتِهِمَا

sawātihimā

their shame

وَقَالَ

waqāla

And he said

مَا

mā

(Did) not

نَهَىٰكُمَا

nahākumā

forbid you both

رَبُّكُمَا

rabbukumā

your Lord

عَنْ

ʿan

from

هَـٰذِهِ

hādhihi

this

ٱلشَّجَرَةِ

l-shajarati

[the] tree

إِلَّآ

illā

except

أَن

an

that

تَكُونَا

takūnā

you two become

مَلَكَيْنِ

malakayni

Angels

أَوْ

aw

or

تَكُونَا

takūnā

you two become

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلْخَـٰلِدِينَ

l-khālidīna

the immortals

وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ

waqāsamahumā

And he swore (to) both of them

إِنِّى

innī

Indeed, I am

لَكُمَا

lakumā

to both of you

لَمِنَ

lamina

among

ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ

l-nāṣiḥīna

the sincere advisors

فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا

fadallāhumā

So he made both of them fall

بِغُرُورٍۢ ۚ

bighurūrin

by deception

فَلَمَّا

falammā

Then when

ذَاقَا

dhāqā

they both tasted

ٱلشَّجَرَةَ

l-shajarata

the tree

بَدَتْ

badat

became apparent

لَهُمَا

lahumā

to both of them

سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا

sawātuhumā

their shame

وَطَفِقَا

waṭafiqā

and they began

يَخْصِفَانِ

yakhṣifāni

(to) fasten

عَلَيْهِمَا

ʿalayhimā

over themselves

مِن

min

from

وَرَقِ

waraqi

(the) leaves

ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ

l-janati

(of) the Garden

وَنَادَىٰهُمَا

wanādāhumā

And called them both

رَبُّهُمَآ

rabbuhumā

their Lord

أَلَمْ

alam

Did not

أَنْهَكُمَا

anhakumā

I forbid you both

عَن

ʿan

from

تِلْكُمَا

til'kumā

this

ٱلشَّجَرَةِ

l-shajarati

[the] tree

وَأَقُل

wa-aqul

and [I] say

لَّكُمَآ

lakumā

to both of you

إِنَّ

inna

that

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ

l-shayṭāna

[the] Shaitaan

لَكُمَا

lakumā

to both of you

عَدُوٌّۭ

ʿaduwwun

(is) an enemy

مُّبِينٌۭ

mubīnun

open

قَالَا

qālā

Both of them said

رَبَّنَا

rabbanā

Our Lord

ظَلَمْنَآ

ẓalamnā

we have wronged

أَنفُسَنَا

anfusanā

ourselves

وَإِن

wa-in

and if

لَّمْ

lam

not

تَغْفِرْ

taghfir

You forgive

لَنَا

lanā

[for] us

وَتَرْحَمْنَا

watarḥamnā

and have mercy (on) us

لَنَكُونَنَّ

lanakūnanna

surely, we will be

مِنَ

mina

among

ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ

l-khāsirīna

the losers

قَالَ

qāla

(Allah) said

ٱهْبِطُوا۟

ih'biṭū

Get down

بَعْضُكُمْ

baʿḍukum

some of you

لِبَعْضٍ

libaʿḍin

to some others

عَدُوٌّۭ ۖ

ʿaduwwun

(as) enemy

وَلَكُمْ

walakum

And for you

فِى

fī

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

l-arḍi

the earth

مُسْتَقَرٌّۭ

mus'taqarrun

(is) a dwelling place

وَمَتَـٰعٌ

wamatāʿun

and livelihood

إِلَىٰ

ilā

for

حِينٍۢ

ḥīnin

a time

قَالَ

qāla

He said

فِيهَا

fīhā

In it

تَحْيَوْنَ

taḥyawna

you will live

وَفِيهَا

wafīhā

and in it

تَمُوتُونَ

tamūtūna

you will die

وَمِنْهَا

wamin'hā

and from it

تُخْرَجُونَ

tukh'rajūna

you will be brought forth
