Al-Hijr

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ

wanabbi'hum

And inform them

عَن

ʿan

about

ضَيْفِ

ḍayfi

(the) guests

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

ib'rāhīma

(of) Ibrahim

إِذْ

idh

When

دَخَلُوا۟

dakhalū

they entered

عَلَيْهِ

ʿalayhi

upon him

فَقَالُوا۟

faqālū

and said

سَلَـٰمًۭا

salāman

Peace

قَالَ

qāla

He said

إِنَّا

innā

Indeed, we

مِنكُمْ

minkum

(are) of you

وَجِلُونَ

wajilūna

afraid

قَالُوا۟

qālū

They said

لَا

lā

(Do) not

تَوْجَلْ

tawjal

be afraid

إِنَّا

innā

indeed, we

نُبَشِّرُكَ

nubashiruka

[we] bring glad tidings to you

بِغُلَـٰمٍ

bighulāmin

of a boy

عَلِيمٍۢ

ʿalīmin

learned

قَالَ

qāla

He said

أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى

abashartumūnī

Do you give me glad tidings

عَلَىٰٓ

ʿalā

Do you give me glad tidings

أَن

an

although

مَّسَّنِىَ

massaniya

has overtaken me

ٱلْكِبَرُ

l-kibaru

old age

فَبِمَ

fabima

Then about what

تُبَشِّرُونَ

tubashirūna

you give glad tidings

قَالُوا۟

qālū

They said

بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ

basharnāka

We give you glad tidings

بِٱلْحَقِّ

bil-ḥaqi

in truth

فَلَا

falā

so (do) not

تَكُن

takun

be

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ

l-qāniṭīna

the despairing

قَالَ

qāla

He said

وَمَن

waman

And who

يَقْنَطُ

yaqnaṭu

despairs

مِن

min

of

رَّحْمَةِ

raḥmati

(the) Mercy

رَبِّهِۦٓ

rabbihi

(of) his Lord

إِلَّا

illā

except

ٱلضَّآلُّونَ

l-ḍālūna

those who are astray

قَالَ

qāla

He said

فَمَا

famā

Then what

خَطْبُكُمْ

khaṭbukum

(is) your business

أَيُّهَا

ayyuhā

O messengers

ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

l-mur'salūna

O messengers

قَالُوٓا۟

qālū

They said

إِنَّآ

innā

Indeed, we

أُرْسِلْنَآ

ur'sil'nā

[we] have been sent

إِلَىٰ

ilā

to

قَوْمٍۢ

qawmin

a people

مُّجْرِمِينَ

muj'rimīna

criminals

إِلَّآ

illā

Except

ءَالَ

āla

the family

لُوطٍ

lūṭin

of Lut

إِنَّا

innā

indeed, we

لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ

lamunajjūhum

surely will save them

أَجْمَعِينَ

ajmaʿīna

all

إِلَّا

illā

Except

ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ

im'ra-atahu

his wife

قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ

qaddarnā

We have decreed

إِنَّهَا

innahā

that she

لَمِنَ

lamina

(is) surely of

ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ

l-ghābirīna

those who remain behind

فَلَمَّا

falammā

And when

جَآءَ

jāa

came

ءَالَ

āla

(to the) family

لُوطٍ

lūṭin

(of) Lut

ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

l-mur'salūna

the messengers

قَالَ

qāla

He said

إِنَّكُمْ

innakum

Indeed, you

قَوْمٌۭ

qawmun

(are) a people

مُّنكَرُونَ

munkarūna

unknown

قَالُوا۟

qālū

They said

بَلْ

bal

Nay

جِئْنَـٰكَ

ji'nāka

we have come to you

بِمَا

bimā

with what

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they were

فِيهِ

fīhi

in it

يَمْتَرُونَ

yamtarūna

disputing

وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَ

wa-ataynāka

And we have come to you

بِٱلْحَقِّ

bil-ḥaqi

with the truth

وَإِنَّا

wa-innā

and indeed, we

لَصَـٰدِقُونَ

laṣādiqūna

surely (are) truthful

فَأَسْرِ

fa-asri

So travel

بِأَهْلِكَ

bi-ahlika

with your family

بِقِطْعٍۢ

biqiṭ'ʿin

in a portion

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلَّيْلِ

al-layli

the night

وَٱتَّبِعْ

wa-ittabiʿ

and follow

أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ

adbārahum

their backs

وَلَا

walā

and not

يَلْتَفِتْ

yaltafit

let look back

مِنكُمْ

minkum

among you

أَحَدٌۭ

aḥadun

anyone

وَٱمْضُوا۟

wa-im'ḍū

and go on

حَيْثُ

ḥaythu

where

تُؤْمَرُونَ

tu'marūna

you are ordered

وَقَضَيْنَآ

waqaḍaynā

And We conveyed

إِلَيْهِ

ilayhi

to him

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

[that]

ٱلْأَمْرَ

l-amra

the matter

أَنَّ

anna

that

دَابِرَ

dābira

(the) root

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

hāulāi

(of) these

مَقْطُوعٌۭ

maqṭūʿun

would be cut off

مُّصْبِحِينَ

muṣ'biḥīna

(by) early morning

وَجَآءَ

wajāa

And came

أَهْلُ

ahlu

(the) people

ٱلْمَدِينَةِ

l-madīnati

(of) the city

يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ

yastabshirūna

rejoicing

قَالَ

qāla

He said

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

hāulāi

these

ضَيْفِى

ḍayfī

(are) my guests

فَلَا

falā

so (do) not

تَفْضَحُونِ

tafḍaḥūni

shame me

وَٱتَّقُوا۟

wa-ittaqū

And fear

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

وَلَا

walā

and (do) not

تُخْزُونِ

tukh'zūni

disgrace me

قَالُوٓا۟

qālū

They said

أَوَلَمْ

awalam

Did not

نَنْهَكَ

nanhaka

we forbid you

عَنِ

ʿani

from

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

l-ʿālamīna

the world

قَالَ

qāla

He said

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

hāulāi

These

بَنَاتِىٓ

banātī

(are) my daughters

إِن

in

if

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you would be

فَـٰعِلِينَ

fāʿilīna

doers

لَعَمْرُكَ

laʿamruka

By your life

إِنَّهُمْ

innahum

indeed, they

لَفِى

lafī

were in

سَكْرَتِهِمْ

sakratihim

their intoxication

يَعْمَهُونَ

yaʿmahūna

wandering blindly

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ

fa-akhadhathumu

So, seized them

ٱلصَّيْحَةُ

l-ṣayḥatu

the awful cry

مُشْرِقِينَ

mush'riqīna

at sunrise

فَجَعَلْنَا

fajaʿalnā

And We made

عَـٰلِيَهَا

ʿāliyahā

its highest (part)

سَافِلَهَا

sāfilahā

its lowest

وَأَمْطَرْنَا

wa-amṭarnā

and We rained

عَلَيْهِمْ

ʿalayhim

upon them

حِجَارَةًۭ

ḥijāratan

stones

مِّن

min

of

سِجِّيلٍ

sijjīlin

baked clay

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

فِى

fī

in

ذَٰلِكَ

dhālika

that

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

laāyātin

(are) the Signs

لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ

lil'mutawassimīna

for those who discern
