Al-A'raf

وَلَوْ

walaw

And if

شِئْنَا

shi'nā

We willed

لَرَفَعْنَـٰهُ

larafaʿnāhu

surely, We (could) have raised him

بِهَا

bihā

with these

وَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥٓ

walākinnahu

[and] but he

أَخْلَدَ

akhlada

adhered

إِلَى

ilā

to

ٱلْأَرْضِ

l-arḍi

the earth

وَٱتَّبَعَ

wa-ittabaʿa

and followed

هَوَىٰهُ ۚ

hawāhu

his (vain) desires

فَمَثَلُهُۥ

famathaluhu

So his example

كَمَثَلِ

kamathali

(is) like (the) example

ٱلْكَلْبِ

l-kalbi

(of) the dog

إِن

in

if

تَحْمِلْ

taḥmil

you attack

عَلَيْهِ

ʿalayhi

[on] him

يَلْهَثْ

yalhath

he lolls out his tongue

أَوْ

aw

or

تَتْرُكْهُ

tatruk'hu

if you leave him

يَلْهَث ۚ

yalhath

he lolls out his tongue

ذَّٰلِكَ

dhālika

That

مَثَلُ

mathalu

(is the) example

ٱلْقَوْمِ

l-qawmi

(of) the people

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

denied

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا ۚ

biāyātinā

[in] Our Signs

فَٱقْصُصِ

fa-uq'ṣuṣi

So relate

ٱلْقَصَصَ

l-qaṣaṣa

the story

لَعَلَّهُمْ

laʿallahum

so that they may

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

yatafakkarūna

reflect

سَآءَ

sāa

Evil

مَثَلًا

mathalan

(as) an example

ٱلْقَوْمُ

l-qawmu

(are) the people

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

denied

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

biāyātinā

Our Signs

وَأَنفُسَهُمْ

wa-anfusahum

and themselves

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they used to

يَظْلِمُونَ

yaẓlimūna

wrong

مَن

man

Whoever

يَهْدِ

yahdi

(is) guided

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

(by) Allah

فَهُوَ

fahuwa

then he

ٱلْمُهْتَدِى ۖ

l-muh'tadī

(is) the guided one

وَمَن

waman

while whoever

يُضْلِلْ

yuḍ'lil

He lets go astray

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

fa-ulāika

then those

هُمُ

humu

[they]

ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

l-khāsirūna

(are) the losers

وَلَقَدْ

walaqad

And certainly

ذَرَأْنَا

dharanā

We have created

لِجَهَنَّمَ

lijahannama

for Hell

كَثِيرًۭا

kathīran

many

مِّنَ

mina

of

ٱلْجِنِّ

l-jini

the jinn

وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ

wal-insi

and men

لَهُمْ

lahum

For them

قُلُوبٌۭ

qulūbun

(are) hearts

لَّا

lā

(but) not

يَفْقَهُونَ

yafqahūna

they understand

بِهَا

bihā

with them

وَلَهُمْ

walahum

and for them

أَعْيُنٌۭ

aʿyunun

(are) eyes

لَّا

lā

(but) not

يُبْصِرُونَ

yub'ṣirūna

they see

بِهَا

bihā

with them

وَلَهُمْ

walahum

and for them

ءَاذَانٌۭ

ādhānun

(are) ears

لَّا

lā

(but) not

يَسْمَعُونَ

yasmaʿūna

they hear

بِهَآ ۚ

bihā

with them

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

ulāika

Those

كَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

kal-anʿāmi

(are) like cattle

بَلْ

bal

nay

هُمْ

hum

they

أَضَلُّ ۚ

aḍallu

(are) more astray

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

ulāika

Those

هُمُ

humu

they

ٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَ

l-ghāfilūna

(are) the heedless

وَلِلَّهِ

walillahi

And for Allah

ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ

l-asmāu

(are) the names

ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ

l-ḥus'nā

the most beautiful

فَٱدْعُوهُ

fa-id'ʿūhu

so invoke Him

بِهَا ۖ

bihā

by them

وَذَرُوا۟

wadharū

And leave

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those who

يُلْحِدُونَ

yul'ḥidūna

deviate

فِىٓ

fī

concerning

أَسْمَـٰٓئِهِۦ ۚ

asmāihi

His names

سَيُجْزَوْنَ

sayuj'zawna

They will be recompensed

مَا

mā

for what

كَانُوا۟

kānū

they used to

يَعْمَلُونَ

yaʿmalūna

do

وَمِمَّنْ

wamimman

And of (those) whom

خَلَقْنَآ

khalaqnā

We have created

أُمَّةٌۭ

ummatun

(is) a nation

يَهْدُونَ

yahdūna

who guides

بِٱلْحَقِّ

bil-ḥaqi

with the truth

وَبِهِۦ

wabihi

and thereby

يَعْدِلُونَ

yaʿdilūna

they establish justice

وَٱلَّذِينَ

wa-alladhīna

But those who

كَذَّبُوا۟

kadhabū

denied

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

biāyātinā

Our Signs

سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم

sanastadrijuhum

We will gradually lead them

مِّنْ

min

from

حَيْثُ

ḥaythu

where

لَا

lā

not

يَعْلَمُونَ

yaʿlamūna

they know

وَأُمْلِى

wa-um'lī

And I will give respite

لَهُمْ ۚ

lahum

to them

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

كَيْدِى

kaydī

My plan

مَتِينٌ

matīnun

(is) firm

أَوَلَمْ

awalam

Do not

يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۗ

yatafakkarū

they reflect

مَا

mā

Not

بِصَاحِبِهِم

biṣāḥibihim

in their companion

مِّن

min

[of]

جِنَّةٍ ۚ

jinnatin

(is) any madness

إِنْ

in

Not

هُوَ

huwa

he

إِلَّا

illā

(is) but

نَذِيرٌۭ

nadhīrun

a warner

مُّبِينٌ

mubīnun

clear

أَوَلَمْ

awalam

Do not

يَنظُرُوا۟

yanẓurū

they look

فِى

fī

in

مَلَكُوتِ

malakūti

(the) dominion

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

l-samāwāti

(of) the heavens

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

wal-arḍi

and the earth

وَمَا

wamā

and what

خَلَقَ

khalaqa

has (been) created

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

(by) Allah

مِن

min

of

شَىْءٍۢ

shayin

(every)thing

وَأَنْ

wa-an

and that

عَسَىٰٓ

ʿasā

perhaps

أَن

an

[that]

يَكُونَ

yakūna

has

قَدِ

qadi

verily

ٱقْتَرَبَ

iq'taraba

come near

أَجَلُهُمْ ۖ

ajaluhum

their term

فَبِأَىِّ

fabi-ayyi

So in what

حَدِيثٍۭ

ḥadīthin

statement

بَعْدَهُۥ

baʿdahu

after this

يُؤْمِنُونَ

yu'minūna

will they believe

مَن

man

Whoever

يُضْلِلِ

yuḍ'lili

(is) let go astray

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

(by) Allah

فَلَا

falā

then (there is) no

هَادِىَ

hādiya

guide

لَهُۥ ۚ

lahu

for him

وَيَذَرُهُمْ

wayadharuhum

And He leaves them

فِى

fī

in

طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ

ṭugh'yānihim

their transgression

يَعْمَهُونَ

yaʿmahūna

wandering blindly

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ

yasalūnaka

They ask you

عَنِ

ʿani

about

ٱلسَّاعَةِ

l-sāʿati

the Hour

أَيَّانَ

ayyāna

when will be

مُرْسَىٰهَا ۖ

mur'sāhā

its appointed time

قُلْ

qul

Say

إِنَّمَا

innamā

Only

عِلْمُهَا

ʿil'muhā

its knowledge

عِندَ

ʿinda

(is) with

رَبِّى ۖ

rabbī

my Lord

لَا

lā

no (one)

يُجَلِّيهَا

yujallīhā

can reveal [it]

لِوَقْتِهَآ

liwaqtihā

its time

إِلَّا

illā

except

هُوَ ۚ

huwa

Him

ثَقُلَتْ

thaqulat

It lays heavily

فِى

fī

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

l-samāwāti

the heavens

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

wal-arḍi

and the earth

لَا

lā

Not

تَأْتِيكُمْ

tatīkum

will it come to you

إِلَّا

illā

but

بَغْتَةًۭ ۗ

baghtatan

suddenly

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ

yasalūnaka

They ask you

كَأَنَّكَ

ka-annaka

as if you

حَفِىٌّ

ḥafiyyun

(were) well informed

عَنْهَا ۖ

ʿanhā

about it

قُلْ

qul

Say

إِنَّمَا

innamā

Only

عِلْمُهَا

ʿil'muhā

its knowledge

عِندَ

ʿinda

(is) with

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

walākinna

but

أَكْثَرَ

akthara

most

ٱلنَّاسِ

l-nāsi

(of) the people

لَا

lā

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

yaʿlamūna

know

قُل

qul

Say

لَّآ

lā

Not

أَمْلِكُ

amliku

I have power

لِنَفْسِى

linafsī

for myself

نَفْعًۭا

nafʿan

(to) benefit

وَلَا

walā

and no

ضَرًّا

ḍarran

(power to) harm

إِلَّا

illā

except

مَا

mā

what

شَآءَ

shāa

wills

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

l-lahu

Allah

وَلَوْ

walaw

And if

كُنتُ

kuntu

I would

أَعْلَمُ

aʿlamu

know

ٱلْغَيْبَ

l-ghayba

(of) the unseen

لَٱسْتَكْثَرْتُ

la-is'takthartu

surely I could have multiplied

مِنَ

mina

of

ٱلْخَيْرِ

l-khayri

the good

وَمَا

wamā

and not

مَسَّنِىَ

massaniya

(could) have touched me

ٱلسُّوٓءُ ۚ

l-sūu

the evil

إِنْ

in

Not

أَنَا۠

anā

(am) I

إِلَّا

illā

except

نَذِيرٌۭ

nadhīrun

a warner

وَبَشِيرٌۭ

wabashīrun

and a bearer of good tidings

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

liqawmin

to a people

يُؤْمِنُونَ

yu'minūna

who believe

۞ هُوَ

huwa

He

ٱلَّذِى

alladhī

(is) the One Who

خَلَقَكُم

khalaqakum

created you

مِّن

min

from

نَّفْسٍۢ

nafsin

a soul

وَٰحِدَةٍۢ

wāḥidatin

single

وَجَعَلَ

wajaʿala

and made

مِنْهَا

min'hā

from it

زَوْجَهَا

zawjahā

its mate

لِيَسْكُنَ

liyaskuna

that he might live

إِلَيْهَا ۖ

ilayhā

with her

فَلَمَّا

falammā

And when

تَغَشَّىٰهَا

taghashāhā

he covers her

حَمَلَتْ

ḥamalat

she carries

حَمْلًا

ḥamlan

a burden

خَفِيفًۭا

khafīfan

light

فَمَرَّتْ

famarrat

and continues

بِهِۦ ۖ

bihi

with it

فَلَمَّآ

falammā

But when

أَثْقَلَت

athqalat

she grows heavy

دَّعَوَا

daʿawā

they both invoke

ٱللَّهَ

l-laha

Allah

رَبَّهُمَا

rabbahumā

their Lord

لَئِنْ

la-in

If

ءَاتَيْتَنَا

ātaytanā

You give us

صَـٰلِحًۭا

ṣāliḥan

a righteous (child)

لَّنَكُونَنَّ

lanakūnanna

surely we will be

مِنَ

mina

among

ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ

l-shākirīna

the thankful

فَلَمَّآ

falammā

But when

ءَاتَىٰهُمَا

ātāhumā

He gives them

صَـٰلِحًۭا

ṣāliḥan

a good, (child)

جَعَلَا

jaʿalā

they make

لَهُۥ

lahu

for Him

شُرَكَآءَ

shurakāa

partners

فِيمَآ

fīmā

in what

ءَاتَىٰهُمَا ۚ

ātāhumā

He has given them

فَتَعَـٰلَى

fataʿālā

But exalted

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

(is) Allah

عَمَّا

ʿammā

above what

يُشْرِكُونَ

yush'rikūna

they associate (with Him)

أَيُشْرِكُونَ

ayush'rikūna

Do they associate

مَا

mā

what

لَا

lā

(can) not

يَخْلُقُ

yakhluqu

create

شَيْـًۭٔا

shayan

anything

وَهُمْ

wahum

and they

يُخْلَقُونَ

yukh'laqūna

are created

وَلَا

walā

And not

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

yastaṭīʿūna

they are able

لَهُمْ

lahum

to (give) them

نَصْرًۭا

naṣran

any help

وَلَآ

walā

and not

أَنفُسَهُمْ

anfusahum

themselves

يَنصُرُونَ

yanṣurūna

can they help

وَإِن

wa-in

And if

تَدْعُوهُمْ

tadʿūhum

you call them

إِلَى

ilā

to

ٱلْهُدَىٰ

l-hudā

the guidance

لَا

lā

not

يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ ۚ

yattabiʿūkum

will they follow you

سَوَآءٌ

sawāon

(It is) same

عَلَيْكُمْ

ʿalaykum

for you

أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ

adaʿawtumūhum

whether you call them

أَمْ

am

or

أَنتُمْ

antum

you

صَـٰمِتُونَ

ṣāmitūna

remain silent

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

ٱلَّذِينَ

alladhīna

those whom

تَدْعُونَ

tadʿūna

you call

مِن

min

from

دُونِ

dūni

besides

ٱللَّهِ

l-lahi

Allah

عِبَادٌ

ʿibādun

(are) slaves

أَمْثَالُكُمْ ۖ

amthālukum

like you

فَٱدْعُوهُمْ

fa-id'ʿūhum

So invoke them

فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟

falyastajībū

and let them respond

لَكُمْ

lakum

to you

إِن

in

if

كُنتُمْ

kuntum

you are

صَـٰدِقِينَ

ṣādiqīna

truthful

أَلَهُمْ

alahum

Are for them

أَرْجُلٌۭ

arjulun

feet

يَمْشُونَ

yamshūna

(to) walk

بِهَآ ۖ

bihā

with [it]

أَمْ

am

or

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

أَيْدٍۢ

aydin

hands

يَبْطِشُونَ

yabṭishūna

(to) hold

بِهَآ ۖ

bihā

with [it]

أَمْ

am

or

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

أَعْيُنٌۭ

aʿyunun

eyes

يُبْصِرُونَ

yub'ṣirūna

(to) see

بِهَآ ۖ

bihā

with [it]

أَمْ

am

or

لَهُمْ

lahum

for them

ءَاذَانٌۭ

ādhānun

ears

يَسْمَعُونَ

yasmaʿūna

(to) hear

بِهَا ۗ

bihā

with [it]

قُلِ

quli

Say

ٱدْعُوا۟

id'ʿū

Call

شُرَكَآءَكُمْ

shurakāakum

your partners

ثُمَّ

thumma

then

كِيدُونِ

kīdūni

scheme against me

فَلَا

falā

and (do) not

تُنظِرُونِ

tunẓirūni

give me respite

إِنَّ

inna

Indeed

وَلِـِّۧىَ

waliyyiya

my protector

ٱللَّهُ

l-lahu

(is) Allah

ٱلَّذِى

alladhī

the One Who

نَزَّلَ

nazzala

revealed

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ

l-kitāba

the Book

وَهُوَ

wahuwa

And He

يَتَوَلَّى

yatawallā

protects

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

l-ṣāliḥīna

the righteous

وَٱلَّذِينَ

wa-alladhīna

And those whom

تَدْعُونَ

tadʿūna

you invoke

مِن

min

from

دُونِهِۦ

dūnihi

besides Him

لَا

lā

not

يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

yastaṭīʿūna

they are able

نَصْرَكُمْ

naṣrakum

(to) help you

وَلَآ

walā

and not

أَنفُسَهُمْ

anfusahum

themselves

يَنصُرُونَ

yanṣurūna

can they help

وَإِن

wa-in

And if

تَدْعُوهُمْ

tadʿūhum

you call them

إِلَى

ilā

to

ٱلْهُدَىٰ

l-hudā

the guidance

لَا

lā

not

يَسْمَعُوا۟ ۖ

yasmaʿū

do they not

وَتَرَىٰهُمْ

watarāhum

And you see them

يَنظُرُونَ

yanẓurūna

looking

إِلَيْكَ

ilayka

at you

وَهُمْ

wahum

but they

لَا

lā

not

يُبْصِرُونَ

yub'ṣirūna

(do) they see

خُذِ

khudhi

Hold

ٱلْعَفْوَ

l-ʿafwa

(to) forgiveness

وَأْمُرْ

wamur

and enjoin

بِٱلْعُرْفِ

bil-ʿur'fi

the good

وَأَعْرِضْ

wa-aʿriḍ

and turn away

عَنِ

ʿani

from

ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ

l-jāhilīna

the ignorant

وَإِمَّا

wa-immā

And if

يَنزَغَنَّكَ

yanzaghannaka

an evil suggestion comes to you

مِنَ

mina

from

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ

l-shayṭāni

[the] Shaitaan

نَزْغٌۭ

nazghun

[an evil suggestion]

فَٱسْتَعِذْ

fa-is'taʿidh

then seek refuge

بِٱللَّهِ ۚ

bil-lahi

in Allah

إِنَّهُۥ

innahu

Indeed, He

سَمِيعٌ

samīʿun

(is) All-Hearing

عَلِيمٌ

ʿalīmun

All-Knowing
